TURKMENISTAN'S VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF REGIONAL AND GLOBAL ENERGY COOPERATION John Defterios is a veteran, award-winning journalist, economics and energy analyst with more than 30 years of experience across CNN, Reuters and PBS Television. He is the former CNN Emerging Markets Editor, Energy Correspondent and Anchor, where he developed a distinguished reputation for covering global energy markets, emerging economies and major geopolitical developments. Currently, Defterios serves as Senior Advisor at APCO Worldwide and holds advisory and governance roles with organisations including the UN’s Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the Stern Stewart Institute and the Centre for Cyber Economics. He is also a Senior Fellow at the World Economic Forum’s Centre for Energy & Materials, following two decades as a media leader at the Forum. An internationally recognised moderator and thought leader, Defterios has chaired high-level ministerial forums, executive roundtables and global conferences for organisations including the IEA, IMF, OECD, UNIDO, OPEC, World Economic Forum, IRENA, ADIPEC, Gastech and the World Energy Council. His work has earned numerous awards for excellence in journalism and energy reporting, including the Alfred I. duPont Award from Columbia University. He holds a BA in Journalism and Political Economics from the University of Southern California and is based in London, with extensive professional engagement across the Middle East, Asia and the United States.
